Tonight the big headliner will be Hillary Clinton with a prime time speaking spot. Chelsea Clinton will be narrating a tribute to her mother prior to her speech. As such, Hillary Clinton supporters will be present this evening cheering on their candidate, it will be interesting to watch.
A video report from ABC News:
Another report from the Washington Post:
DENVER Aug. 26 — A day after opening their national convention with tributes from Sen. Barack Obama’s wife and one of his strongest supporters, Democrats Tuesday turned to their presidential candidate’s former leading rival in an effort to unite the party for its fall battle against Republican Sen. John McCain.
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.), the former presidential front-runner who was beaten out by Obama in this year’s primaries and caucuses, takes center stage Tuesday night for a prime-time convention speech that analysts expect to feature strong attacks on McCain and the Bush administration.
With some delegates looking for more of a “red-meat” approach after Monday night’s family-themed speech by Michelle Obama and an emotional address by an ailing Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.), the task of sharpening the Democrats’ attacks on the GOP appeared to be falling to Clinton, especially after McCain (Ariz.) began using Clinton’s own words in political ads criticizing Obama.
Clinton has been publicly urging supporters to throw their full support to Obama and has denounced McCain’s attempts to drive a wedge between them. That Republican effort continued with a new McCain ad that uses Clinton’s words about her rival during her primary campaign in an ad about a 3 a.m. phone call: “I know Senator McCain has a lifetime of experience that he will bring to the White House. And Senator Obama has a speech he gave in 2002.” A narrator in the McCain ad continues: “Hillary’s right. John McCain for president.”
In her speech Tuesday night, Clinton also faces the task of convincing supporters of “the intensity, the strength of her commitment” to Obama, according to New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, himself a former Democratic presidential contender. In his own convention speech Wednesday, he told CNN’s “American Morning” program, he plans to get tough on the Republicans over foreign policy and other matters.
We’ll have more reports later today along with all of the important video as things happen this evening.

Report on Clinton’s speech from Reuters:
DENVER (Reuters) - Hillary Clinton delivered a ringing call for Democratic Party unity on Tuesday, promising to work for Barack Obama and challenging her supporters to bury their grudges and rally behind his White House bid.
“Whether you voted for me or voted for Barack, the time is now to unite as a single party with a single purpose,” said Clinton in a speech Democrats hope will end a lingering party rift left over from their bitter nominating fight.
Clinton, a New York senator, praised Obama and said Democrats could not sit on the sidelines and watch Republican presidential candidate John McCain take the White House and “squander the promise of our country.”
“No way, no how, no McCain. Barack Obama is my candidate and he must be our president,” Clinton told a roaring crowd waving a sea of white “Hillary” signs.
Clinton used her highly anticipated turn in the spotlight to say Democrats must unite to help the first-term Illinois senator beat McCain in the November 4 election. A Democrat is needed in the White House to turn around the struggling U.S. economy, she said.
“When Barack Obama is in the White House, he’ll revitalize our economy, defend the working people of America, and meet the global challenges of our time,” Clinton said.
Her husband, former President Bill Clinton, watched from the balcony. At one point his eyes welled with tears and he mouthed the words “I love you.”
From most accounts it appears that Hillary did a good job of convincing Democrats to vote their party and support Obama. We’ll see how Bill Clinton does on Wednesday night.
For some flip side thoughts, here’s former Bush adviser Karl Rove analyzing Hillary’s speech:
Reaction from MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann:
A positive day for Obama it seems, this moment was a long time in coming to see Hillary Clinton seem to wholeheartedly toss her support behind.
We shall stay tuned for Wednesday as the important draws near when Obama accepts the nomination.

You’re doing a great job with your coverage, Nate. I opted to watch the World’s Toughest Jobs last night instead of Michelle Obama, you hit the highlights well for me this morning. On late night news last night, I only got 2 opinions, CNN calling her speech “astonishing”, and someone else on CNN slamming it as a sleeper night.
Oh, and a Fox News commentator saying he was disappointed there wasn’t one word in her speech about hers and Barack’s exellent education - she completely skipped over their “Harvard” we’re like everyone else speech, apparently.
My favorite is behind the scene. This year former Presidential Candidate will not be allowed to speak. Obama does not want him to because he cheated on his wife and lied about it . Yet Bill Clinton, who lost his degree for lying to court and in his younger days was found guilty of a feloney, will speak at the convention.
You mentioned Obama’s Havard degree. Here is a man, that as a boy his Dad and Mother left him to be raise by another. This white woman I guess helped him get this great education. While running for President he comes under fire for his , let’s say unusual Preacher. To try and help himself, he accused the woman who raised him as being a racist. Yet she raised him, and Obama is half black. I find this to be a major flaw in Obama.
3 young men have been arrested for planning to kill Obama
I thought Hillary did a great speech and I aint no Hillary fan. Michelle Obama did a superb job with her speech. It’s kinda sad how she’s damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t by the McCainanites. Ah well any shit that sticks I guess.
Michelle Obama and Hillary Clinton’s messages were touching. They both did terrific work. The McCain camp can say what they want to say but Obama is the next President of America. Talking about experience, then give McCain a new military unform because that is what has experience on. Leave Bush to continue. He’s the one who has got eight years experience in precedency now. Experience people are retired to be replaced by younger, more energetic and sound minded people. Please let sleeping dogs lie. The Republicans are known foe depleting the economy while the Democrats are known for rebuilding it. Bush, McCain and their Republican party have done the destruction, pass the batton to the Democrats to do the repair work please.
Pats, you say “Bush, McCain and their Republican party have done the destruction”
HOW HAS AND HOW COULD JOHN MCCAIN BEEN PART OF THAT IF HE ISNT EVEN PART OF THE ADMINISTRATION YOU IMBISLE!
Obama is not qualified. Not McCain talking. But Biden, Hillary Clinton, and Bill Clinton…Who is Qualified. John McCain. So say HILLARY AND BIDEN, Kerry and Biden. McCain was aked to run for V.P with Kerry as Democrat.,..Because of his expence. So tell me how McCain is a 3rd term Bush. Democrat party wanted McCain in WHITE HOUSE UNDER KERRY.
PATS—Who makes it posible to spend money for Governnment. Congress……Congress passes bills. President can only pass or veto bills. Bush had to veto a war budget bwcause 1/3 of the budget was pork belly spemding. This in a Democratic controled Congress. All this spending is Congress fault.. This is why polls show Congress has a MUCH LOWER APPROBAL rating than the President.
Because they all vote together.They vote of thing that don’t benefit the common man. You have to have money and connections to get benefit from GOP policies.Besides he sided with bush 90% of the time on all important issues.GOP did bring back the deficit ,it was balanced under Clinton .He’s not the only democrat that balanced the budget .McCain’s tax policies would cause more of national debt.And his answer is to drill for oil ,And build nuclear power plants(even thou we are telling Which are others they can’t build them) & Clean coal. Which are out dated ideas designed to concentrate the money in a few hands.We the people are going to be pay higher energy prices.He is going with the most expensive energy prices comparatively .check it out;
http://peswiki.com/energy.....owatt-Hour
His main focus is the one that is the most expensive and potential for danger.It is not not the cheapest ,nor the safest, nor the most renewable .So what benefit does it this have except concentrating the money and power in a few hands. look at the plans;
http://www.cnn.com/2008/P.....newssearch
Ra Great party view. Have you seen McCain web site. I can not respond to everything you have said, it would be too lenghtly. But GOD BLESS AMERICA. We have the right to disagree…. McCain is pushing for All forms of energy… I will only say this. Without high oil prices, most green alternative energies have problems. Speaker of House and Obama know this. New, very safe off-shore drilling improvements has occurred all around the world. Legislation, regulations and lawsuites have done their best so America will loss it money to Middle East. This $700 Billion loss a year has loss America job.. Bush did not cause the finical shape we are in. Congress allowing unqualified home buying and hurting our oil production did that.
Ra As far as Bill Clinton’s balance budet. Did he have a Republican controled Congress. Who passes financial bills ? Congress. Congress. Congress.. What does President do with bills. He either approves or vetos. So tell me. Who really balanced budget ??
RA Many..Slide with McCain for laws to pass Congress to help Bush. In a Democrat controled Congress, many Democrates must..SLIDE AS WELL.

Looks to me like Clinton wasn’t a big fan of a balanced budget or an increase in taxes during bad economic times, seems it causes recessions, hummm wonder what changed, Oh I know there is a Republican in the house, Clinton has to rethink basic economics if his beliefs could be seen to support what the Republican’s are saying now.
Ray Please go to John McCain web site. McCain does not do POrK BELLY SPENDING. Try to find a web site that shows pork belly history of those in Congress. Pork belly spending is spending projects that could not become law by itself. Usually a pet spending project a a Congressman Adds to a GOOD BILL to pay his vote. After all some Congressmen are whores. See the break down on Democrats and Republica pork belly sponsership. Then read what you recently wrote. Make your vote count.
Pats,
I want you to think about what you said about experience please. Obama has 4 years in the U.S. government and 2 of those were on the election trail. How can you actually believe that experience doesn’t matter for the most powerful position in the world ?
Take the names McCain and Obama out of it.
What you are saying is that a man who spent 5 years in a enemy prison camp dealing with torture (not that others haven’t but it has to add to your world view), a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy as a jet pilot, a bronze and silver star recipient, Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross winner, 26 years in U.S. government and 72 years of life is less qualified than
a man who graduated Harvard as a lawyer, has 4 years in the U.S. government and 47 years life experience.
Seriously, can’t you just say you are just bias toward Obama ? Why speak the obvious language of a person who is brainwashed with this no experience needed stuff ? I have a little guess that experience does matter to you and that for example you would like your surgeon to have operated before he cuts or your dentist to have filled a cavity before he drills. I even bet you would prefer riding in a car driven by an adult rather than a teenager. Hummm, guess experience may matter afterall.
Don’t get me wrong, I am unquestionably against Obama but if the Dems had put Biden at the top of the ticket–now that may have been appealing.
Todd I read that article. Some do not like remembering things as factual as that. They only hear the words coming out of Clinton’s mouth NOW. Democrat control congress will not vote to take care of medicare and Social Security money short comings. Our children and retirees will pay the price. YET, the Democrat party cares. I will forcast few remarks will be made on that article you included by Democrats
I am watching Binden talk at DNC. He talks about all the great bills Obama got passed. Let me tell you how it works.. SOmebody comes up with a bill. Then congressMEN line up and some put their name on that bill, Then if both Houses come to agreement, the President can leave it and after a certain length of time, it becomes law. Or President can sign or veto. All these great bills and great laws may or may not been begun by Obama. He could of added his name in order to have bragging right at election time. It amazes me the credit he gives to Obama, and bad things he said about McCain. This goes against the Biden that said Obama is not ready to be President. It goes against the Biden that said McCain should be in WHITE HOUSE.
Bill, it looks like you have a lot to say…LOL
Just watched Mark Warners speech as I missed it last night, Christ almighty what a boring man he is, I take back what I said about Lieberman being dull.
And to concur with Babs, I think Nate’s doing a great job with the coverage.
PUDDY Yes I have lots to say. All factual to the best of my ability.. No name calling. No reading of mines. Please take the hint. We would get along great. Someone on this site longer than me, said you get worse. I hope you don’t.
I think you’ve been listening to Obama_Sucks, good luck on that one.
No, not him…So OObama, sucks is another person that feels that way
Todd- Have you noticed how people likt to blame Bush for national debt. Congress passes laws on economics. But when Congress is controled by Democrats thay muct blame President. No one can argue that Congress passes Economic laws. So they ignore those comments. I would like someone as outspoken as Puddy to expainly how President causes National debt instead of Congress. I would love to here it done logically but expect it will not be done
Democrats have only been in charge of Congress since 2006, you like facts don’t you Bill ?. The national debt went spastic long before they were running the show. So lets be fair here Bill, the Dems aren’t responsible for the debt.
Is Bush responsible for the debt? Well lets be completely fair here too. 9/11, Afghanistan and Katrina certain didn’t help and these were things that were out of Bush’s control (I mention Afghanistan as that was a necessary thing to do) but probably could’ve been managed a whole lot better. Iraq was in Bush’s control and unnecessary and that’s probably where a good chunk of the debt has come from, I’ll probably be proven wrong on that. I’m still trying to get my head around the sub-prime mortgage fiasco, but I’m sure that’s down to some form of piss poor management under Bush’s watch.
Iraq War was passed by Congress. All war budgets was passed.. Bush vetoed one for 1/3 too much pork by Democrat controlled Congress.. Got changed and passed. Maybe iraq war would have been done better. Same for Civil War, 1812, WW1, WW2 KOREA, Viet nam, and others. Congress as well can take credit for Iaq war. Congree control the regulators. Regulators and Congress blew Sub-prime. But Congress Congress allowed un-qualified buyers..little down payment, no job check or lengthly employment and secure job, and good credit rating………. That has nothing to do with Bush. That has to do with Congress. But prove me wrong. Look up the powers of the President. Look up the Powers of Congress. While at it, look up the Powers of the judicial. Then come back and show me how you are RIGHT.
Yes Democrats have only been in power since 2006. But that does not change the fact that Congress passes bills. Not Bush. Which is what I said. Which you have not changed wwith your argument
You may think stock market always goes up every year, it does not. That affects national debt. Iraq war budget hurt national debt, Sub prime hurt debt. And high oil price is killing jobs and national debt. None of which is Bush’s sole fault. You say Iraq was in Bush’s control, party it was with Congress continued help. Was u.n. approved. Security Council did not veto. But I am proud America helps. If Russia gets rough in Georgia and maybe Europe, you think America should help. Are you a Bristish suject that thinks America should butt-out. Let Russia attack. They don’t seem to be leaving those pipelines in Georgia. America will leave Iraq, We entered with Congress and u.n. blesasing
Iraq War was enetered into with United Nations approval. War has gone so well that Iraq and America are working on plan for America to leave
So are we agreed then Bill, that it’s the Congress fault and Bush being the President has no control over anything and that Republicans need to take responsibilty for running the Congress for 6 of the 8 years Bush will have been in office?
Congress pases bills. President either vetos are sings or let sit. Which is same as signing. President is the Commander and Chief of the Armed foces. Hillary voted for the war.
NZ I would suggest you study the Powers of the 3 branches of our govenment…Executive, Legislative, and Judicial
Bill I have read up on the powers of the 3 branches of the government, I’m just trying to follow your logic.
