Story on Puerto Rico from Yahoo News:

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Hillary Rodham Clinton cruised toward a largely symbolic victory Sunday in Puerto Rico’s presidential primary, the final act in a weekend of tumult that brought Barack Obama tantalizingly close to the Democratic presidential nomination.

“We’re going to win big here today,” Clinton’s campaign chairman Terry McAuliffe predicted Sunday as Puerto Ricans cast ballots in a race with 55 delegates at stake.

A pre-election poll backed him up, showing Clinton favored by 65 percent of the votes to 35 percent for Obama.

Obama was on track to gain at least 14 delegates, bringing him within 50 of the 2,118 needed for the nomination.

More as it comes in but this victory was expected so it’s not that big of a deal.

  1. GO HILLARY! KEEP FIGHTING!!!

There are over 17 MILLION people who have voted for you so far, and the numbers keep growing. You are ending this Primary season with landmark wins that defy the odds and show your strengths with key demographics needed to win ANY General Election. You have shown resiliance, tenacity, and courage in the face of mainstream media that continues to marginalize your campaign in favor of their “Golden Boy” novelty candidate. You offer strength and yes, experience to a weary public that is in need of your legendary strength now more than ever.

Though Puerto Rico may not be voting in November, your stunning victory there today highlights your popularity and trusting relationship with the Latin Community. A community that has supported you from day one and continues to grow and change the voting landscape. You did what you always do, and that’s campaign honestly and campaign hard.

There are a lot of people in the mainstream media and even within the Democratic Party who are doing their best to shove you out of this race, and all but hand it over to your less qualified contender. Throughout all of the one sided noise coming out of the press, you have stuck to the belief that you are the most prepared to lead this nation on DAY ONE; and that a Hillary Clinton Administration would be the smartest choice to lead America out of it’s recession and restore our standing in the world. When others count you out, you fire back with slew of 30 point victories.

You continue to pack your rallies with EIGHT TO TEN THOUSAND people per event. You are winning in the popular vote and are being flooded with letters of support from those who need the kind of champion in the White House that you have always been.

So here is to you, Senator Clinton. You have stood up to the drug companies, the oil companies, the Bush Administration, and you are standing up to the skeptics. To the blind and narrow minded believers who think that “Hope” is a solution and that “Change” is as simple as casting a ballot of blind faith.

Keep fighting, Senator. We need you!

  3. Puerto Rico will be a HUGE key swing unincorporated territory. As goes Puerto Rico so goes American Soma and Guam. Wait Obama already won Guam so I guess they don’t count. Damn those Chamorros!

How is Puerto Rico a great win for anybody? Actually how is any Democratic Primary a portent for the general election? The majority of voters for either candidate will support the party nominee in the general election. There will be some that think they will cast their ballot in November for McCain as a protest vote because their candidate was somehow cheated out of the nomination. However their number is negligible and they are stupid.

The reason why people want Clinton out is because her campaign has now become an embarrassment. She is losing not because of some vast sexist left wing and media conspiracy to destroy her but because she ran an incompetent campaign. If anything the media really wants Hillary to stay in because it means ratings for them. Some of them are probably praying for her to pull a Joe Lieberman and run as a “Petitioning Democrat” in November.

This idea that Hillary should be given a shot at winning the general election when she can’t even win her primary is hillarious. Why have the primaries if the candidate with the most political power and machinery can just bully their way to the top of the ticket? Why have the primaries when the metric used to decide the winner, delegates won, can be disregarded? I am tired of her ridiculous arguments of “I won the popular vote” and “I won more states starting with a vowel” and “more left handed people voted for me than my opponent”. Granted I made the last two up but they are no more ridiculous than her other reasons. To the second place finisher does not go the spoils.

But hey who cares. GO HILLARY and KEEP FIGHTING!

  4. Go Hillary, Keep ruining the democratic chances of winning in november. But thats not important to you. You refuse to support a canidate with exactly the same policys as you do beceause its all about you off course.

    Go Hillary,
Even though, the nr 2 reason people voted for you was the fact that people liked Bill.

    Go Hillary,
You are a great candidate but so is Barack Obama. So please dont try to marginalize his achievements.

  5. Over 17 Million votes cast in favor of Senator Clinton, and she is an “embarrassment”?

I also don’t think that Senator Clinton is trying “marginalize” Mr. Obama’s achievements. There would actually have to be some in order for her to do that.

    GO CLINTON!!!!

    Raymond deserves Bush the third

  7. No, Frank, some countries get Queens, like yours. There is no Bush the third, Raymond and every other citizen of this country deserves a president with experience and wisdom, and that’s what we’ll get with McCain.

Congratulations to Hillary, she’s stacking the deck for the convention. At least she hopes so, good luck to her. :)

  8. Hilary has more class than most anyone involved with this race with the exception of Barrack Obama who equals her in how classy a guy he is. We have been blessed with two incredible candidates. I am shocked that Hilary is willing to run as his vice president and think he should jump at the chance.

    Peace, Love, and Respect,
    Thomas
