That’s an interesting question posed from a Fox News video I found earlier. The question of whether or not comedy and entertainment shows sort of “cheapen” the democratic process. This cuts all political sides as each candidate has appeared on a variety of comedy and entertainment shows over the election season.
Here, give this a watch:
So, what do you all think? I’m sure you have opinions on this. In my opinion, I’d have to say that picking on candidates isn’t the same as picking on democracy. It’s sort of just highlighting the fact that we’re all human and will make mistakes, including presidential candidates.

Actually I have to admit that whenever I consider voting for McCain, an interview on the daily show from about this time last year keeps coming back to me

I have to give McCain applause for having the guts to come on the Daily show repeatedly as he did and having discussions like this so openly. I feel like this is a pretty unique discussion that just doesn’t happen on other networks. Ironically the other networks are… “real” news.
Thanks for the link, IndiMinded, I enjoyed it. I think the thing that has sold me most on McCain are the real candid talks like this one and not so much the speeches. His real personality comes through, and I like that, so I think most of these appearances are not a bad thing. If anything cheapens the process, it’s things like the SNL skits that the candidates themselves didn’t participate in.
I think it’s Fox news, and fox in general that cheapens every aspect of our lives, not just democracy.
The real joke comes from our major news media outlets — too bad THEY are trying to be serious. These major media sources could learn a few things from late night comedy.
