Clinton Talks of Swaying Obama’s Pledged Delegates
Hillary Clinton’s road to the Democratic nomination looks rough. At this point she would face considerable challenges overtaking Barack Obama in the pledged delegate count, and with the race sharpening in Pennsylvania, she is hearing increasing pressure to bow out.
In what may be another way to argue for her viability, Hillary Clinton hinted that she may go after pledged delegates Barack Obama won from popular votes.
According to Beth Fouhy of the Associated Press, April 3, 2008:
“There is no such thing as a pledged delegate,” Clinton said at a news conference in California, where she has been fundraising.
Both Clinton and Obama planned to address the state convention of the North Dakota Democratic Party Friday, where delegates to this summer’s national convention will be allocated. Obama crushed Clinton in the state’s Feb. 5 presidential caucuses, 61-36 percent.
The former first lady said she was traveling to North Dakota to thank her supporters and delegates - and wooing Obama supporters was fair game. Pledged delegates are “misnomer. The whole point is for delegates, however they are chosen, to really ask themselves who would be the best president and who would be our best nominee against Senator McCain,” Clinton said. “And I think that process goes all the way to the convention.”
While the DNC has no rules requiring pledged delegates won in primaries and caucuses to vote for the candidate, the people who serve as pledged delegates are selected by the campaigns who won them and loyalty is a key qualification.
Obama currently leads in the delegate count, 1,634-1,500, according to The Associated Press. Because of the way Democrats apportion delegates, Clinton is not projected to catch Obama even if she has a strong showing in the remaining 10 contests.
A “pledged” delegate is indeed free to vote any way s/he chooses, but the politics behind this are hotly debated. Clinton faced criticism over falling behind in the pledged delegate count because they represented Obama’s lead in the popular vote (not including Florida and Michigan’s votes). Whether she will win over any of Obama’s pledged delegates, or receive public support for this, remains uncertain.

Do we have another presidential candidate who plans on talking endlessly about democracy, but who doesn’t care about winning by popular vote? Huzzah!
Hillary / Cheney ‘08!
I wish she’d just go away…maybe light herself on fire or something….
Hillary is delusional. Period. What I don’t understand is why an American public would willingly vote for someone so vile, callous, cold, calculation and obviously fake.
1. She lied about being under sniper fire….and had TWO seperate reasons when she backtracked on the statement. First she said it was a joke. Then she said she misspoke. In a police investigation this is indicative of a person lying to cover themselves in attempt to deny guilt or responsibility.
2. She wants to change the rules midway through the game and we all know damn well if the shoe was on the other foot and she was ahead with Obama wanting to count the votes of Florida and Michigan, she would fight it tooth an nail, yet nobody has called her out on this.
3. She’s behind in delegates yet she offer’s Obama, who is leading in delegates, the VP spot??
4. She actually has the audacity to say the delegates are not settled and that they should choose on thier own which way to vote? So Queen Hillary wants us to forego democracy and have the delegates NOT vote for who thier respective constituents voted for and instead vote the way she wants them to all while claiming a need for Florida and Michigan to be counted to insure a proper democratic process and that all votes be counted…”every vote counts” WE don’t want any voters to be disenfranchised … What do you call attempting to persuade delegates to vote AGAINST thier constituents? So their votes don’t count Hillary, but Michigan and Florida, who broke the rules, should?
5. She sends a letter to Nancy Pelosi telling her to stay out of it after Pelosi issued a statement that delegates should vote according to who thier constituents voted for.
And you want to vote for this woman why?
Hillary is an insane egomaniacal sociopathic communist with noone’s interest at heart but her own and in my opinion anyone failing to come to that realitization has absolutely no clue whatsoever with what’s going on in politics today.
I have heard enough of people who say why so and so should win the Democratic Party nomination in order for McCain to win etc. etc. etc. The bottom line is this….the person that should should be the person who does so legally and within the rules and regulations set forth in the constitution. If you do not have the vote of the willing people you do not have a claim to the presidency. You do not hijack elections by changing the rules or arguing to change the rules midway through the election or telling fellow senators to stuff it so that you can change the minds of representative delegates. Idiots dumb enough to continue to follow a person like that are contributors to what will be a doomed society.
To Hillary’s followers: Regardless of what good you may think she may do or what good you think Bill will do, Hillary is telling you it’s ok to lie, cheat and steal your way into the White House and that it’s up to her to decide whose vote counts and whose do not as long as it benefits her. Wake up.
I don’t care if it’s Obama or McCain at least each of those candidates, whether they screw up or not, at least will do it without lying directly to your face, and do it without trying to change the rules of the elections. A vote for Hillary is a vote for another Bush.
PS: I would never in my right mind vote for a candidate so underhanded they actually had to look into an opposing candidate’s kindegarten records for some dirt. That’s just rediculous.
I bet Hillary ate paste or sniffed glue which may explain her mental disorder.
Now this type of tactic reinforces the idea that Senator Clinton may think that she (or they) are entitled to the presidency.
I would like to hear what the hardcore Hilary supporters who post here have to say about this.
Although what she says is true, it is funny to note that in Iowa, our delegates are not set in stone until June 14. We still have district and state conventions to finalize the vote and inIowa Hillary actually lost support.
State pledged delegate % totals as of Jan. 3 Caucus were:
Senator Barack Obama : 37.58%
Senator John Edwards : 29.75%
Senator Hillary Clinton : 29.47%
State pledged delgate % as of totals March 15th were:
Senator Barack Obama: 51.96%
Senator Hillary Clinton: 32.08%
Senator John Edwards: 15.52%
She may want to think again if she is counting on pledged delegates switching to her side.
