Florida Officially Rejects Revote

Michigan might be moving ahead with their revote plans, but Florida is moving backwards. Recently Florida Democrats dismissed the option of a mail-in revote, placing the decision squarely on the shoulders of the DNC.

Brendan Farrington of the Associated Press reports, March 17, 2008:

In Florida, a frustrated Democratic Party chairwoman Karen L. Thurman sent a letter announcing the decision.

“A party-run primary or caucus has been ruled out, and it’s simply not possible for the state to hold another election, even if the party were to pay for it,” Thurman said. “… This doesn’t mean that Democrats are giving up on Florida voters. It means that a solution will have to come from the DNC Rules & Bylaws Committee, which is scheduled to meet again in April.”

Michigan Democrats are still moving ahead with their plans for a June 3rd primary, funded primarily through independent donors.

Another report from 7online.com:

FLORIDA (WABC) — Florida Democrats will not be holding a “do-over” presidential primary after all.

The plan to hold a second primary in an effort to seat the state’s delegates at August convention fell apart on Monday, after party leaders expressed concerns about the proposal, which would have involved a mostly mail-in effort.

The state party considered it, because the Democratic National Committee is refusing to award delegates based on Florida’s January 29th primary, in which Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton beat Senator Barack Obama.

I’d say score one for Clinton.

One Response to “Florida Officially Rejects Revote”

  1. I agree, Michael. Score one for Hillary. I heard on one of the news programs last night that Obama actually did run a national commercial in Florida prior to that primary, so his contention that it should be a do over because he didn’t get to campaign there has no validity, according to the reports. Also, he might want to be careful about asking for do overs anyway, from the looks of all the polls this week there seems to be a certain amount of voter’s remorse going around.
