Republican Debate Tonight on CNN @ 8pm ET

Tonight, Wednesday, January 30, 2008, will be the final Republican debate before Super Tuesday. It will begin on CNN at 8pm eastern time from Simi Valley, California.

Here’s a story on it from Multichannel News:

Anchor Anderson Cooper will moderate the Republican candidates’ debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. Jim VandeHei, executive editor of the POLITICO, and Janet Hook, senior political correspondent for the Los Angeles Times, will serve as panelists questioning the candidates.

It will be 90 minutes long and it will be down to the wire for Mitt Romney who’s go to stop this McCain momentum before Super Tuesday.

We’ll have more coverage tomorrow along with some preview video.

Update @ 3:52pm ET

Here’s a little preview video from CNN followed be a nifty time lapse of the debate site setup:

John McCain will indeed be playing the conservative card on tax cuts, Iraq, and probably border security. Perhaps the issue of abortion may come as well. Romney, I believe, will be trying to play the “McCain’s a liberal” card instead. Huckabee will be there to survive. Ron Paul will have the same message, maybe a little stronger since we’re now heading into Super Tuesday, Feb. 5th.

I think it will be a good debate tonight. It all begins at 8pm eastern time, 5pm pacific on CNN. We’ll have a live chat during the debate and of course, post-debate analysis followed by the entire video.

  1. Obama is nearly neck and neck with Hillary Clinton in New York City. The implications, if he does take the city (it is a long shot to take the state) would be vast for the Clinton campaign, which sees NYC as the center of support for Clinton’s bid.

  2. Mitt Romney must come out swinging and never come up for air when it comes to attacking John McCain tonight in the Debate. The new developments with the “stimulus package” that broke today today is that illegal immigrants will be receiving checks. I heard Tom Tancredo on Neil Cavuto remark that if illegals are written a stimulus check they will only send it back to Mexico. So now not only are we trying to restore our economy but we continue to support Mexico’s economy as well. I think it’s predictable that John McCain will come out tonight and support his pro-stimulus position and don’t you just know that he loves the fact illegal immigrants will not be excluded from this awful stimulus package.

Advice to Romney: Pounce Like A Cheetah!!!!

  5. If the press was fair and reported the truth, Ron Paul would be getting the press and in first place for the nomination. How anyone with a mind that work, and who is aware we have a constitution in this country could even listen to anyone else, or vote for other candidates shows the sad state of affairs we are really in. Just listen to what the CFO of USA, Comptroller John Walker has to say about the crisis we are in financially, and you will see Ron Paul is the only one telling the truth in this election. The truth will come out, no matter how hard those in power and control try. It only is a matter of time. The Fed Reserve is the problem, not the solution, and it is only how much pain do you have to go through before you wise up, and vote for an honest man with integrity that will make the changes needed, and right now that is RON PAUL.

  7. It’s a two man race, McCain or Romney. If it was a McCain/Romney ticket, they together might have a chance against the democrats. Face it, this will not be an easy year for the Republicans. No one candidate can win it on his own unless he has an excellent running mate. McCain’s focus, military, military, military, is to narrow to carry the day on its own. He needs a younger more energetic running mate to balance his age.

  8. This was NOT a fair debate! The mainstream media wants to choose for us. (McCain or Romney) No regard to Huckabee! Yes true Ron Paul does not stand a chance but the media said Huckabee was a long shot when the Iowa caucus was held. OPPS they were rong! I DO not agree with how the media attempts to manipulate the general public. SHAME on YOU!
My take so far: ROMNEY is a LIAR (flip flopper) and McCain is a long time political figure little man with a military chip on his shoulder and anger issues, he is NOT Conservative! Give Huckabee a chance to be heard!

  9. According to the newspaper, McCain returned to Jacksonville in 1973 after more than five years as a prisoner of war to find that his wife was a different person. Carol McCain, once a model, had been badly injured in a car wreck in 1969. The article recounts that her injuries “left her 4 inches shorter and on crutches, and she gained a good deal of weight.”

By 1979, McCain was concerned that his Naval career was not advancing and pondering his future. He met Cindy Hensley, an attractive 25-year-old woman from a wealthy Arizona family. McCain courted her and married her in May 1980 — a month after getting a divorce.

Less than a year later, the McCains moved to Arizona where Cindy’s family runs one of the country’s largest Anheuser-Busch distributorships. A year after that, McCain ran for an open congressional seat and won. He was on his way.

You won’t find an account of this period on McCain’s Web site.

  10. McCain may get the nomination but he cannot win in the fall with nothing more than his old war record, political endorsements, and endless name dropping. I find McCain’s smugness and dirty tricks very disappointing. As a person who has voted Republican in eleven general elections, I find McCain the least inspiring candidate to date. He would have to have a terrific, dynamic V.P. to keep me voting Republican.

  11. The true conservative,
Dr. Paul is sounding like a broken record. Broken records don’t get played.

    Time to rerecord.

Economy: Ok let’s look at this from a actual plan of attack.

Day one lock down the Social security money in the bank and get it out of the general fund and the Mitts of the Congress. Complete separation. Eliminate all unneeded government agencies. Money to the Social Security fund to start to balance it. Yaa Daa Yaa DAA.

Day two, start pulling out all troops from non combat countries. Money to shift to combat areas for controlled removal. Yaa Daa……

Day three Meet with all remaining government agencies and cut back 20% across the board.

Day four, you get the idea. I sat with Republicans from other candidates to watch the debate. They gave Paul answers before he did. That means they are no longer listening and will not be swayed by “College Courses on Economics”. Dr. Paul’s driven home the need for his position now he needs to sell “a plan”.

Step by step so the American People can understand it. Get off the answer sheet you are on please and get to the nuts and bolts. That is where we are now.

When the people start hearing the real plan in a “plain speak” (Huckabee) way. Ron Paul could very well be President.

If he goes any further in his speaking on the same diatribe, he will be marginalized out of existence.

The media is not going to play broken records. Think it through. You sat and watched as I did. When Dr. Paul moved away from his old play book he got applause.

Cut to the chase and put out the real deal how it effects me and mine speeches right now. Time is a wastin’

I write mortgages for a living. I can tell you McCain is an idiot on his comments in the debate. I sit with people in tears everyday as they fight to keep their homes. Not because they were greedy, investing, stupid or ignorant but because their jobs are going to NAFTA. The middle class is hurting beyond words. I write mobile home loans. Think about that. Trailers! People are losing their trailers! Why???
Simple, income is dropping, Taxes across the board are rising and insurance is out of control.

You sit with a crying 55 year old woman who is out of work and trying to stay in a trailer and see if this does not make you want to “SCREAM CHANGE.”

We don’t need another program, we need a real plan. If any candidate says “here is my program” put them in the chair next to Guilianni.
