John Edwards Quits Presidential Race

He said it wouldn’t happen yet here we are.

Story from CNN:

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (CNN) — Former Sen. John Edwards dropped out of the race for the Democratic presidential nomination on Wednesday.

“It is time for me to step aside so that history can blaze its path,” Edwards said in New Orleans, the same city where he first declared his run for the 2008 Democratic presidential race.

With his wife, Elizabeth, and children at his side, Edwards said he couldn’t predict “who will take the final steps to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.,” but he said it would be a Democrat.

“We must do better if we want to live up to the promise of this country we love so much,” he said.

Earlier, an Edwards aide said the candidate was not getting the media attention he needed to get his message out and win delegates, especially with races coming up in 22 states next Tuesday.

Edwards has amassed 26 delegates for the Democratic nomination.

Here is his withdrawal speech:

Interesting that he hasn’t endorsed either Clinton or Obama, he’s probably still gunning for a VP slot I’d guess. Obviously endorsing one or the other may cut his chances by 50%.

It was time for Edwards to go. Angry made a good point last night on the Shaun OMac show in that Edwards has been running around using public funding for his campaign when he knew he wouldn’t win. That simply becomes a waste of money at some point. I’m surprised though because he said he’d be going all the way.

Well, now we’re down to 2 so the Democratic debate on Thursday night might be interesting between Clinton and Obama.

  1. I feel sorry for Edwards, he seemed like a decent candidate.
How long is the media and the American public going to continue to ignore the fact that Clinton and McCain are winning because the Illegals are being permitted to vote?
