Analysis: CNN Republican Debate From California
It’s about 8:25pm ET and so far it has been pretty mild. Romney has tried to attack McCain brining up the record and the normal things conservatives bash McCain on.
It’s been a Romney/McCain fest with Huckabee and Paul getting only a few words in.
So far, I think Romney’s going down in flames, he has not gone after McCain any harder than he did in previous debates. He’s got some time now to turn it around but if he doesn’t, McCain is basically going into Super Tuesday unchallenged.
Update @ 9:03pm ET
Finally, McCain and Romney are going at it over the Iraq timetable withdrawal question. Romney’s showing his strength here. They are seriously going back and forth over this issue.
Here’s a video clip of McCain talking immigration:
Update @ 9:36pm ET
It’s over, a few minutes over time. Romney dominated in terms of time since there were no time limits on answers. McCain spent the second amount and it seemed that Paul and Huckabee shared about 20 minutes or so.
Romney clearly won the sound bite war but McCain came off fairly strong as well. I don’t know if it will be enough to give Romney some victories in Super Tuesday but right now, I don’t think he knocked McCain down all that much.
Update
Here’s another clip of McCain and Romney going at each other:
And one more clip:

If McCain gets the republican nomination I WILL NOT vote. Sorry, I just can’t. I find him extremely boring, too old and pretty nasty at times. I also think he is more democrat than republican. He is nothing less than jealous of Mitt Romney, and he should be. Romney has it all, good looks, intelligence, his record as governor, and money. Money is really bothering the other candidates, but if Mitt wasn’t interested in this country he certainly wouldn’t be spending his own money to get his message out.
Who won the CNN Republican Debate in California?
http://www.youpolls.com/d.....p?pid=1664
.
Ron Paul succinct and too the point
then huckbee then a toss up between Mccain and romney
Huccabee wasn’t given much time compared to McCain and Romney. For the amountn of time he was given I think he did great. He looked presidential but also he came across as somebody who understands the common man and as someone who can lead a government.
Ron Paul is a smart guy but I wish he’d get quit the race. This would give us sometime to focus on the other three.
Romney did a good job as well. I wish Anderson Cooper would have controlled the debate, as a moderator he really let things get out of hand.
McCain looked terrible. I’m sure he’s a great guy but man he was putting me to sleep and scaring the beejeebies out of me at the same time with that silly grin and talk of war.
I came away thinking Huccabee best understood how a leader brings a governement together for change.
If McCain gets the nomination, I will not vote either!!!
He’s a piece of work……..and I can respect a military man, but we need someone that has much more than just military experience. He uses his military record to play on sympathy and in this time I think it’s reprehensible to play on emotions. He sees his way, he’s knows everything and is always right. All I’ve been hearing from him is his military service and his attacks on Romney. Is that all he has to sell on all the issues we face?
” if Mitt wasn’t interested in this country he certainly wouldn’t be spending his own money to get his message out.”
Yeah, because people never spend money in order to obtain high political offices that they can use for their own personal gain.
Ron Paul seems to be the only one with a clear vision for the future and a real understanding of economics. How can McCain say with a straight face that the war is going well and that we should commit ourselves indefinitely to Bush’s failed policies?
And Huckabee…that guy’s a country bumpkin that would get destroyed by Clinton or Obama.
Dr. Paul is the right choice.
Huccabee’s response to the question about Putin was very vague. Although I get the impression he has the skillset to manage a government, I do not believe from his responses to the assassination of Bhutto and this type of question about Putin that he has any global sense of foreign affairs or a well-developed philosophy for how the US should approach them.
I just finished watching what was suppose to have been the “Republican Debate” in California……only it wasn’t … it was the Romney McCain debate…… Equal time was not given to Huckabee or Paul …..in fact Ron Paul was cut short twice by Anderson…where Romney and McCain were allowed lengthy allotments….. Anderson said at the beginning there were no rules….except the ones he wanted to make…… Now will CNN host a debate with equal time to Huckabee and Ron Paul and be as rude to McCain and Romney as they were tonight. And I would love to hear an apology to Ron Paul for the RUDENESS affronted to him. Did you mothe not teach you Anderson that interrupting someone while they were talking was rude!!! It has been made clear to me that we do not select the Candidates but the news media does……… In my opinion….Huckabee was the best canidate because he let you know how wrong you and blind sighted you were in the debate……
Romney flip-flops that much he’d be better off going for the Beijing Olympics. Then he might have a better chance of getting some more gold medals.
McCain IS the better choice at the moment because he can reach across to the Democrats and get policies sorted. The ‘you’re either with us or against us’, ‘my way or the highway’ attitude Bush has is what’s dividing America at the moment, and it seems Romney has the same attitude.
I found it strange how little McCain thinks of businessmen. He diminishes business owners as mere “managers” that are dime a dozen and he could hire 20 of them. Talk like this is what I expect out of a democrat, not a Republican. I have voted party line Republican my whole life, but if McCain wins the nomintion I’m sitting this one out. If he hates me and small business owners like me so much, he can try and win this election without my vote.
Romney won the California debate, even though McCain is most apt to win the nomination. Romney is so sharp, has so much potential, is so solid on the issues I wish he could at least by the V.P. He is strong every place that McCain is weak. Romney was a relative unknown coming in and has been mislabled as a flip/flopper when Romney has done no more flip/flopping than McCain, himself. Romney started with bad press on religion which was another handicap. That is such a non-issue as to be pointless, but it still hurt him. We need Romney someplace in government because our nation needs help!
This is bull crap with your cnn debate with Anderson Cooper!
Ron Paul only had 2 minute to answer his 4.5 questions thus far.
Here are the number so far that was asked before the second commercial.
Mitt 24 Question
McCain 22 Questions
Huckabee 11 Questions
Ron Paul 4.5 Questions
What kind of crap is this? Nothing fair here at all. Ron Paul is on the ballot but CNN dip sh_ts are keeping him out.
We need to flood CNN with emails stating so and tell them this was not fair at all.
This is a four man race, not a Mitt and McCain race.
Its better that McCain and Romney should focus on what are they going to do to help this country be NOT dependent on oil , lower interest rates on mortgages and credit cards, taxes. That’s the most important problem the american people has been struggling right now and health benifits, then proper procedure on securing the border and immigration. The war on Iraq is a waste of money, lives of U.S. soldiers , Iraque people, time. Always follow the money where it come and where it goes (buying & selling) few filthy rich elites enjoy all the profits from the wars, while the rest of us suffers and die. Now…its time to be very wise, your vote is the future of your posterity wether you like it or not. Who is the man fit for the job ???
Media could blind sided you so know who really you are voting, will they do the job once they are on the office ??? Vote wisely.
I love how these debates time are never split fairly for the candidates-but I guess that is asking to much: fairness in polticis and media, yeah right. Pauk shouldn’t back out the race so everyone can focus more on the others, the MEDIA should focus MORE on Pual so more people are aware of his ideology. Wake up people. You want change in America? Then vote Paul, you want the same old played out tune, with no cange or strong vision? Then vote for any of the other candidates.
I just don’t understand the folks who say they will not vote if McCain wins. A vote for McCain is far better than a vote for Hillary which would be result of not voting at all.
Anyway, I don’t believe Huckabee got enough time and it appears the media has once again given us our choices. On the democratic side it’s Hillary and Obama and on the Republican side we can pick between McCain and Romney.
I want to hear more from Huckabee, if he is in the debate let him talk !
I didn’t get to see all of the debate, but what I did see was outrageous. The media is not in charge of this election, the people are, and we want equal time for all the candidates. Ron Paul is the one to vote for. America, we need to get a clue. This is not a popularity contest, its time for us to truly care about our country, and vote for change. Ron Paul is that candidate!
I agree with others here, this was NOT a fair debate! The mainstream media wants to choose for us. (McCain or Romney) No regard to Huckabee! Yes true Ron Paul does not stand a chance but Huckabee was told he was a long shot when the Iowa caucus was held. I DO not agree with how the media attempts to manipulate the general public. SHAME on YOU!
My take so far: ROMNEY is a LIAR (flip flopper) and McCain is a long time political figure little man with a military chip on his shoulder and anger issues, he is NOT Conservative! Give Huckabee a chance to be heard!
The media is fooling everyone. They are deciding who will run, not America. Here is a sad point: Why is it when they asked Huckabee or Paul a question, it was in reference to something McCain said or did? All that does is give indirect airtime to McCain. Totally unfair. Wake up America!! They should have called this debate “Tea-time with McRomney”
I agree with everyone’s comments about the manipulative control the media is waging over the debate.
Although I am supporting Romney, I think it’s ridiculous that Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee were basically shut out of the debate by CNN. I agree with Susan above: CNN literally owes Ron Paul an apology. He was deliberately kept out of the debate.
Unlike everyone who says they won’t vote if McCain becomes the candidate, I will vote. The alternative is unthinkable.
This only solidified my choice for President. When CNN (Communist News Network) ignores and denies a person, the person they dislike and disregard is the person who is the most conservative. The people they try to present as the most conservative are really the most liberal. So, we know that Huckabee was given more time than Ron Paul, but less than the other two; therefore, Huckabee is the second most conservative of the bunch. Ron Paul was given the least amount of time and asked the most stupid questions; therefore, he is the most conservative person. I am conservative. Ron Paul is conservative. Case closed! Simply logic! Oh yeah, I am conservative. CNN is liberal. I hate CNN! Logic again!
Mitt president, stupid McCain…
Gah! I missed the debate, are they going to be re-airing at all anywhere? This was one I definetely didn’t want to miss, but got stuck at work.
I’ve been for Huckabee all the way, I really do believe he knows how to turn this country around based on the things he has to say, and just always seems very composed.
Meanwhile, based on the clips I’ve seen so far, McCain just supports the theory of how nasty he is. If he’s chosen as the Republican candidate, I’m gonna have to vote for Obama. If it’s Hillary, just take my name out of voting all together.
Hillary vs. McCain?? My god. I hope not.
CNN debased the entire process.
All media people throughout the USA should demand a public apology from Mr. Cooper for his treatment of Ron Paul.
No excuse for it. He was there to moderate not insult.
By the way, CNN(Communist News Network/China’s News Network) shouldn’t have to apologize to Americans for this outrage. We should expect this from them. They are anti-American. What did anyone expect? They hate America. They make up the news according to their liberal bias. They force-feed us with the pre-selected candidates they want us to choose from. Fox News is almost as bad. They did the same thing towards Ron Paul before, but now that they see McCain might get the nomination they are whining and complaining about the other media outlets. They should have gotten behind him to begin with. Shameful! Our country has been prostituted out to the global economists and the media conglomerates. We need to apologize to God for ignoring what the liberals and neo-cons were doing for years while we enjoyed our comforts. We have been duped and it may be too late. The ship is sinking and it may be too late to bail it out.
You don’t help the situation by voting for somebody just because they might be “winnable”. You vote for the individual who has the necessary intellect and guts to help the situation. I’ll say what CNN is hoping to hear, and what the liberals who arranged this whole setup by pushing McCain hope to hear too: If McCain gets the nomination, I will not be voting, and all the Republicans I know have said the same thing.
Does anyone know where I can see this debate in full? I got hung up at work and missed it on CNN.
Meanwhile, from the clips I’ve seen so far, McCain just looks like the jerk that is. I really don’t like this guy. If he gets the Republican vote, I’ll have to give my vote to Obama if he wins the Demoratic side. If Hillary gets it? Count me out all together.
Wow, Hillary vs. McCain? My god. Please no.
Ryan, I will have the full video uploaded in a couple hours. There will be a new post with the entire video.
McCain will get smeared by either Obama or Clinton. The only (R) candidates that have a chance against either Hillary or Obama are Romney or Giuliani. McCain is just playing on his POW status, yea thats great but what else can you bring to the table? Not much, how about pulling NYC out of 9-11 or building a multi-million dollar company, and bringing a slumping state economy to par? McCain is a joke he attacks Romney on a position he claims Romney has on the war in Iraq. The problem is McCain is lying about Romney’s position, can’t he find some CREDIBLE dirt on Romney. Romney stomps McCain, too bad Giuliani dropped out and I am disappointed he is endorsing the old geezer McCain….
Has anyone noticed the placement of candidates? JUST Follow the money…
The candidate with the most money: First Romney sits to the right of Anderson then McCain next Ron Paul then followed by Huckabee. Huckabee takes the fourth and furthest seat in this debate. I wonder what each campaign paid for their seat assignment?
Why would Romney’s financial success be used against him?
Liberals often refered to Bush’s failings in the oil business having lost millions of dollars. That was, at least, a credible argument.
If Romney had been a business failure, would that make him more qualified?
Wow! I haven’t seen the debates yet. But noticed the outrage on the lack of Huckabee and Paul exposure.
Doesn’t suprise me though, we’ve all seen this before.
However, I want to take this oppurtunity to let everyone know that Huckabee’s campaign is relying on grassroot efforts survive. For those that want to give Huckabee more media exposure, we should perhaps send him money, because he is a little strapped for some right now to stay afloat. He hasn’t been getting his money as easily as other candidates have because the people that support him are not the as rich as the rest.
I agree, both Mike and Ron have a lot more to say then all the other candidates but havn’t been getting enough exposuret.
What would you say to a Huckabee/Paul ticket?
Ted Turner should be ashamed of what CNN did with this Republican debate. The bias in who was chosen to answer a question and
the frequencey they received questions was embarrasing. And the news media wonder why so few people turn out for elections. The unfair debating process and the media’s reporting are so obviously biased that anyone with the intelligence of a broccoli (Huckabee’s metaphor)) can see it. If 4 candidates are
in a debate, they should receive questions equally. Anderson Cooper and the reporter from the LATimes– and the CNN camera ignored Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee. Their answers were clear
and reasoned. Let them be heard. Ignore the two clowns!
Sorry to all of you who don’t think this is a two person race…IT IS. Just face the facts.
First of all, I just laugh as I read many of these comments. People want CNN to apologize to ron paul for not giving him equal time? Ron Paul should be thankful he was even invited to attend the debate. He will never be the president of the USA, and he isnt got a chance in hell of being the republican nominee. He is just getting in the way and stealing time away from the people that we need to be making a decision on.
I think Romney and Mccain both did fine in the debate. I am a Mccain supporter so I of course liked him tonite. Romney is a politician if ive ever seen one, and it shows. This is why romney has problems-People see through him. He says whatever best fits the current moment. He is a leaf in the wind, but plays a good political game. I dont want a president like that. Though people may disagree with some of Mccain’s policies, atleast he is willing to get things done. I think Mccain honestly tries to think about what is best for the country, and that is why he will reach across the isle to get things accomplished. Mccain doesnt change his stance based on public opinion, he follows his convictions, and sticks to them. He has much stronger leadership qualities than Romney.
Romney has also outspent all the other candidates in mostly attack ad’s. Back at the first debate, I didnt mind Romney, but after seeing him more and more and learning about him, Ive just been really turned off now. I voted Mccain in Florida, and I hope I get the oppurtunity to vote Mccain in November.
I agree with “Elmer”..
McCain is a WEASEL.. I could be more colorful BUT, I will get bleeped.
I wish I could get one Question on these Debates.. McCain seems to think his Military time means he is more worthy to manage “The War on Terror”…
THEN… “HOW COME HE SO EAGER for OPEN BORDERS”… Terrorist can fly to Mexico & come into our Country.. God, I hope Mitt doesn’t drop out.
…HE MAKES NO SENSE..
I would be smirking when Ron Paul spoke of taxes too if I were McRomney, because thats the only way to make it look like he doesnt know what hes talking about, when he is speaking nothing but facts, recorded facts!!! WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE NOT RECOGNIZE THAT RON PAUL IS CORRECT IN WHAT HE SAYS! EVERYTHING he says is BACKED UP by FACT, PUBLISHED, READABLE FACTS!! PROVE ME WRONG!!! Snap out of it already!!!
Ron Paul 2008 for the sake of us all!!!!
I don’t see why everyone calls Ron Paul a long shot canidate… no one even has a 100 delegates… and Ron Paul has more cash on hand than all of them except Romney who’s been funding his own campagin.
This will go the convention where Ron Paul is going to play an important role… in the Republican nominee.
And Nation budget committee report just came out saying Mike, John, and Mitt will increase our national debt.
Ron Paul… would save 150 billion dollars a year..
Why should democracy be censor… Ron Paul served our country longer than Mike hikibee and Mitt Romney… why does he get no coverage.
When people start voting for the projected winner instead of the man who best represents him… a republic becomes meaningless. Just a tool for those in power to continue and extend their power.
Man, it drives me nuts when Paul brings up something like the fact that we keep having these undeclared, dubiously constitutional wars, and he gets done talking, and then the moderator just moves on. These are some pretty serious things he’s saying, but the other candidates know that ignoring them is a lot safer than addressing them, and the moderators just don’t seem to care.
You certianly have to give it to the Ron Paul supporters who are out in force tonight.
Romney was eloquent and clear in his answers, one of the few that I could understand that he actually answered the question that was asked. I don’t understand the critisim about his money and what are referred to as “attack ads.” I’ve heard many of the ads and I suppose that they would be concidered negative if the facts that are cited are concidered negative to the viewers. How is anyone to distinguish between the candidits if their records and stances are not brought to light. Also, I have never heard of anyone complain that the ads were inacurate or false. So when has bringing facts to the light become “negative ads.” As concerning the money that Romney has aquired, I certainly wouldn’t want a failure to be in the oval office. Obviously the man knows how to get things done.
Mccain pretty much the same answer for every question: I ‘m a great war hero and I was a footsoilder in the Reagan movement. Also, he totally skirted the question as to whether he would vote for his own Mccain\Kennedy bill by saying that the bill would never come before the senate for a vote never actully saying that he wouldn’t vote specifially for the bill. I think that he actually would if given the chance. I don’t know where he gets his “straight talker” label from because he surely didn’t show it tonight.
Paul has some good answers and could have received some more questions but still isn’t a viable candidat for any of the races even if he were given the the entire show. Sorry Ron Paul supporters but those are the facts.
Huckabee answered a few of his questions well but lacks the depth to be the leader of the world’s super power. It seemed like he was just trying say some filler stuff just so that he could have more air time. During one of his responses I totally forgot what the question was.
Romney won he debate followed by Huckabee, Paul, then Mccain
I feel Huckabee, though he was plainly pushed out by the moderators, was the most astute of the candidates tonight. I think Huckabee has the best character and leadership America needs—we don’t need a manager, and we don’t need a Washington insider no matter what his PAST albeit heroic credentials may be. Vote for Huckabee!!!
I am amazed by the commentary from people who do not believe that Ron Paul should have been invited to the debate, or that he should step aside so that ‘we can focus on the real cantidares’. These people really must not be listening to the responses the cantidates give (however limited they may be, in Paul’s case), for surely if they were listening and had the ability and desire to process what they were hearing, it would be clear to them that there was only one man sitting up on that stage that has a solid grasp of what is going on in the world. I mean jeez people, wake up, THIS IS YOUR LIFE! Do you really think that the way of life that America and the rest of the western world has drunkenly luxuriated in for the last 60 plus years can last? To think so demonstrates ignorance, nothing less. And to say that Paul’s chances of earning the nomination, and afterwards, the vote, are slim is true, but nothing true in life is gained without a fight. Believe in yourself, open your ears and listen, then SPEAK!
I have to say that I have lost a great deal of respect for Anderson Cooper…..very poorly moderated cat fight. All that was missing was a mud pit! However, I really can not expect much from CNN. I think when Huckabee drops out, which should be shortly after super Tuesday, he most definitely should endorse Ron Paul. You people who suggest that Ron Paul drop out……what are you thinking? He came in second in Nevada, and first in Louisiana….YES, FIRST!!! Don’t believe me? Look it up and see for your self. Ron Paul spanked em tonight, hands down!!! Go Ron Paul!!!!!!
CNN needs to get a new moderator for these debates. Even during the post-coverage, Anderson Cooper continues to interrupt all of the contributors! It’s apparent that Paul and Huckabee were shut out from the debate. Even if most believe they don’t have a chance at winning the nomination, let’s at least hear what they have to say. McCain was arrogant in this debate, and I’m surprised he is so loyal and in agreement with the policies of the Bush administration. From supporting an open-ended war in Iraq, I hope he keeps this mantra so that he loses the general election if he does, indeed, become the Republican nominee. Wake up and realize that McCain stands for a lot of the same policies that Bush supports, which are out of touch with the American people. Is that what we need for another term? Let’s not make the same mistake twice!
I was alarmed at the way Sen McCain flippantly referred to sending illegal aliens back to their country as “rounding them up” (image of cattle here.
I wonder how well the Hispanic population will support this obvious insensitivity to the fastest growing ethnic group becoming mainstread in our country and are here to stay!
fmn
Nonsense! Anderson did a great job! He ensured that CNN’s advertizers are going to make money by giving lots of time to the two special interests candidates, and shutting down the candidates who care about the people. If I were the CEO of CNN, I would promote the man, he is worth millions.
Romney won the debate. Personally, I love Ron Paul’s positions, but he will not get elected, and that is why they don’t give him time. He’s had his chance to reach the public, and he consistently gets 5% of the vote in the primaris, so apparently his message is only appealing to about 5% of us. So, I think that CNN is right; they should give more time to the front-runners. As far as Romney and McCain are concerned. Rush Limbaugh stated two days ago that he would rather vote for Hilarious Rotten Clinton than McCain. Hannity despises him and so does Glenn Beck. The reason why they despise him is because his positions have flopped dramatically to make himself look less liberal than he is. A good example of that was the Bush tax cuts. He was one of two republicans to vote against them; now he is praising them. If McCain wins the nomination, we will lose the election. True republicans will either not vote because they’re disgusted with their options or they will vote for the democrat out of spite like Limbaugh stated. By the way, just to set the record straight McCain is no leader. He has been an order-taker his entire life. He advanced no higher than captain in the military. I’m so repulsed to see his cheap-shot tactics toward Romney and antics in calling Romney a “manager.” The leadership experience Romney has amassed is of so much greater significance than McCain’s time as a flight instructor it is sickening. I agree with the other posts that I am sick of seeing his sly grin, and hearing him talk about war. You can bet that he will drag us into war with Iran as soon as he is elected; McCain is a war monger. McCain can’t shut up about being a “foot soldier” in the Reagan Revolution. Well, he’s been fine as a foot soldier for 70 years, let’s not change that now. Romney is the best choice.
This debate was a complete sham. This was by far the worst yet. I find it funny that at the beginning, Cooper said that there were no rules or time limits, but Cooper seemed to love cutting off Ron Paul. And how about the time when he promised him more questions in 2 minutes, or 2 questions later? More like a half hour or 6 or 7 questions later. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think he got another question until after the commercial break. Even Huckster commented on the unfairness of the debate bringing up the promised “shower” of questions that were supposed to come to him.
The only thing I was able to get out of this debate was an immature name-calling session between McCain and Romney. They looked like little girls fighting on a playground. Did to! Did not! Did to! Did not! Ron Paul nailed it on the head when he told them to shut up already and start actually debating!
These nationally televised debates should not be biased in anyway. For many people, these debates are the only chance of learning about the candidates running for President. Just because one candidate has more delegates than another candidate doesn’t mean that they should get more questions at the debate. The media should not be hand-picking the frontrunners by giving them all the face time on a nationally televised debate like this. It completely goes against everything that this country stands for. When it comes to the candidates’ advertising, that’s paid for by the money raised by the candidates (or Romney’s checkbook), and that’s fine. But, when all the candidates are participating in a GOP function, the American voters have the right to hear all of the candidates views.
I agree with anyone who says Romney for president. McCain has a smerk that you just have to want to smack him for. I agree all the way for sandra. McCain needs to get his grip and worry about his own campaign more than bugging others to get his way. Romney for President.
CNN, a division of Time Warne, r fraudulently favored two candidates over Dr Paul and Ron Huckabeee.
They should be investigated by the FCC.
Oh I forgot the FCC is owned by the Corporations.
Quote from Rich
“Ron Paul is a smart guy but I wish he’d get quit the race. This would give us sometime to focus on the other three.”
A smart guy should quite the race, that doesn’t make any sense at all !
The amount of Ron Paul cry babies is pretty funny. Get over it, the democratic process has him out the door on his way home, he doesn’t need any time to babble, play with his hearing aid, or make childish comments. He’s through - deal with it.
Good lord at all the Ron Paul fan boys. Guys, Ron Paul is done, heck he never even had a chance. How could he ever beat a democrat? Honestly tell me how he would garnish the support of the republican base?
If Ron paul was the president, yea you might save some money, but he would have america turtled up in its shell, he would shrink our military down, pull our bases out from the rest of the world, and we would be a hermit of a nation who didnt step in to help or do anything if one of our allies was in need. He would have Terrorists running rampad in america. Rom paul is hardely a republican with his views and policies. Oh and lets not forget all of the racist newsletters that leaked a while back….Did anyone read them?? lol.
Again- My support is for Mccain, who will be the nominee of the republican party. Guilliani is going to be out in force for mccain, and mccain is fixing to add another endorsement to his long list with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Nancy Raegan has also stated that though she will not make public endorsements, that her support is behind Mccain. Mccain is the man to beat, and He also is the one to take on the clinton machine. If he has to take on Obama, who has no foreign experiance, I look for mccain to make a joke out of him.
Mccain does come across as arrogant, because he stands by what he believes. Read up on what he dealt with in vietnam for 5 years. That sort of thing changes a person. He wasnt willing to give in then, and he wont give in now. I want someone who is strong in the whitehouse. Someone who will not be bullied around in the world, and John Mccain is the maverick to stand up to that defiantly.
I will not vote for McCain because if I wanted to live in Mexico, I would have moved there. I hate McCain with a passion. I would be so happy if someone shot and killed him. This is how much some conservatives hate McCain. He is a traitor. A Benedict Arnold. I am glad he got tourtured because he deserves it.
I would love to see a union of Mike and Ron, Unlike Mitt, who is so Arrogant and could care less for people below his station, and old fuddy duddy Johnny boy… when ask a question on Economics, starts waving a flag (subliminally implied) and how he served his country, and a foot soldier for Regan, and a prisoner of war, (did he get to study the microcosms of supply and demand while being beaten and starved by the Viet cong ?) Either this was a political side step of the question or he is just to old and is a broken record, neither answer is something this country needs, I served from 1987 to 1996 in the Navy so I’m a vet too. But he’s lost my confidence.
I like the directness of Ron when asked any question and the Humbleness of Mike when asked if Regan would endorse him. Unlike Mitt “I’m good looking, I’m stinking rich, and dog gonnit people like me” arrogance . Both Mitt and John are going to stay the course that Bush has so incontinently (yes, he’s piss the country down the tube) led the American people to.
I truly believe in the Economic Revolution that needs to be made and being addressed only by Ron and Mike, and is always scoffed by the “Old Guard” Mitt and John. I grew up a pentecostal charismatic Christian, and now have a different belief system, More live and let live, spiritual, let others believe what they want to. So I’m not so fond of any thing hard core religious. But the country needs a Change, we need Allies, We need Leaders that can be Humble and stop messing in every other countries business.
We are broke, bankrupt, how can we police the world? I hope the American people will wake up and smell the coffee, and put Mike and Ron in the Oval office.
I’m in agreement that the Moderator sucked, and all the questions and time was for Mit and John, Even thought Mike and Ron got so little time and questions, they were able to Out shine the other two. To me I’d say Mike then Ron, Mitt and then the Senile, Flag waving Johnny boy
I would just like to say that I am pleased to see the usual amount of Ron Paul supporters. I think at this point everyone knows the media wants to make our decisions for us. Unfortunately, it seems a lot of you have the sheep-like qualities they prefer. We DO NOT need Ron Paul to drop out, so we can listen to even more nonsense from the rest of the pack. It is politics as usual without Dr. Paul, so it is a waste of time to even discuss what they have to say. We know they will not follow through on any of it, anyway. The only thing we can be sure of, is they will promote more wasteful government spending, more intrusion on our privacy and civil liberties and constant growth of government. WE DO NOT WANT BIG GOVERNMENT!!! There is a reason all the media outlets want him silenced–they know he is sincere and honest and will bring about the change that is necessary in this country. Change that will destroy everything the media and corporate America has worked so hard to enact. He is the only one with a grasp on all the issues–he understands our economy and he knows our foreign policy needs to be revamped. I would like to add that he has never advocated that we “turtle up in our shell,” as one response was so ignorantly worded. He advocates abiding by the constitution and not creating wars. He will bolster our military and secure our borders and then we will be prepared to handle any national security threat and ONLY if it is a threat. I really am ashamed of some of the people in this country. Can you imagine anyone who cherishes freedom and the freedom to choose your leader, allowing the media to limit and restrict information? The media is NOT correct for restricting Dr. Paul or Mike Huckabee for that matter. It is un-American and unconstitutional for any media outlet to limit or otherwise omit information, in an attempt to further their own personal agendas. Please tell me this is a bad dream and soon I will wake up, back in the time where America was for the people, by the people and the thought of Big Brother, I mean big government, telling us what to do and how to do it, made people sick and inspired men to stand up for their liberty.
First let me say I am a Huckabee supporter and believe he is the best choice for the country. But I will have to admit that it is refreshing to hear someone like Ron Paul who is very committed to getting a message out to Americans that I think we all need to think about. He has presented very valid points and has been completely ignored. Now whether you agree with him or not is irrelevant, but no one can deny that he has a handle on the economic woes of this country. He is beginning to convince me that we need someone to shake things up and quit pandering to popular opinion. I am glad the congressman is in these debates if for no other reason than to get his message out to the people of this country. I believe we need to quit making jokes about this man and listen thoughtfully to what he has to say.
McCain is a veteran, but so am I. Just because you served and suffered during wartime does not automatically qualify you for the highest office in America. It also does not deliver you from scrutiny of your record. It does give you a platform to be heard. McCain’s policies and voting record are extremely liberal. From watching the debates, it is easily noticeable that he is inept and highly unqualified when it comes to the economy. He is not the man to represent Republicans.
Romney speaks well, looks very presidential, and is intelligent. But I am wary of him because CNN and the media outlets favor him so much. I also know that his record from the past clashes with his rhetoric today. Mixed signals usually cause major crashes.
Huckabee reminds me of Huckleberry Hound. He has that draw in his speech and has an almost superficial sense of humor. I don’t trust him although I am a conservative Christian. His voting record from the past conflicts with his stand today, not that you cannot change and see the light. I see this double-standard with him. In one moment he is affirmatively speaking out concerning Christ, and the next time I see him he is on Jay Leno jamming out some rock-n-roll. One minute he is claiming to be a strong Southern Baptist, while in the next minute I am reading an ad that he will be appearing on MTV for an interview. Double standard if you ask me. By the way, I am not against him in all honesty, but he reminds me of a Republican Jimmy Carter - a social gospel-type of pastor who is well liked in his community but is more of a “politician” than a Gospel preacher.
Ron Paul - The first time I saw him in the very first debate, being a veteran myself, he made me furious concerning Sept.11th. I gave him no true hearing and I sided with Sean Hannity when he attacked him for his comments. As I began to follow the debates, he had more time to elaborate on what he meant and why he said what he said. The more I heard, the more I agreed with him. I have been to the Middle East. They hate us being there. They do not want us there forever, but that is what our plan is. We have bases built and being built throughout the Middle East. I know why we want to be there. The oil big-wigs in Saudi and Kuwait, etc. want us there to protect their interests, but the common people of their lands want us to leave - yesterday! I bought Ron Paul’s book which basically is his past voting record and explanations in Congress for his votes. It is almost as if he was a prophet (For the cynical people - no, I do not believe he really is a prophet). What he said would happen, is now upon us. He is well-informed and he understands the issues we are currently facing. He sees that our rights and liberties have eroded and been stolen from us gradually. He wants to pull the plug on big government before we pass the point of no return. These next 4 - 8 years will decide the fate of America. This is it. This can’t just be “another one of those presidential elections”.
One last thing, for those scoffers and cynics of Ron Paul, who I always find on blogs attacking his followers as naive and ignorant, I must say that it is much easier to degrade a group or person than it is to debate the issues honestly. Instead of facing each issue head-on, you just say, “To all you stupid ….who support somebody who doesn’t stand a chance…” Where is he wrong? Why is your candidate so right? Let’s debate issues. Let’s talk character and past voting records if we want t o be honest and intelligent. Those who attack Ron Paul enthusiasts are like big bullies who face an opponent with some intelligence. All they know to do is call names and start throwing wild punches.
I don’t hate McCain. I just hate his stand on the issues and his liberalism. I don’t hate Romney. He has impressed me. I don’t hate Huckabee. I am glad he is a Christian who wants to serve as president. But for the highest office in the land, I want the most informed and the person I believe who will bring the government back towards the Constitution and not take it more towards Socialism.
McCain loves to throw names around. He came across to me as a fake and a liar.
The media has given us two choices: McCain and Romney. Funny that they are both ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT politicians. Basically, we don’t have a choice. Break through the media barriers and vote Ron Paul.
Both McCain and Romney have flip flopped on their positions for the election. They are both scary. God help us if either of them win!
The moderator was very rude to Ron Paul. He had less time than any other candidate and was the only candidate to be cut off, which happened several times. I sent an e-mail to CNN that they owe him an apology and a publicized interview so that he can share his views. I think the media is scared of the POWER OF RON PAUL’S WORDS.
I love the way the candidates are beginning to talk about the issues that Ron Paul has been discussing since the beginning. They are parroting what he says yet not giving him credit.
For the first 20 minutes, I liked them all. However, McCain slowly irritated me over time, until at the end of the debate, I could hardly stand him.
Ron Paul was cantankerous. I think the debate would have been better had he not been in attendance.
Huckabee only strengthened my belief in him. He’s a good character with good ideas and I believe would make a decent president.
Romney was the surprise. My estimation of him increased tremendously. He had a good handle on the issues, he was well spoken and seemed the most presidential of the lot.
I was about to say that Romeny have the better chance at defeating the democrats, when visions of the Gore/Bush debate of 2000 entered my mind. After that debate, I was sure Gore won. Gore was more well spoken and presidential, but the people just liked Bush better. They didn’t want Gore who seemed too polished. If likeability is a key component of good president, Huckabee is the better man.
I will vote for Huckabee.
I watched the last half hour of the Republica debate, and I am disappointed that Huckabee got such little time to discuss the clear issues which will help the voters decide rather than hear McCain and Romney talk cheap and petty. It was obvious to me that Huckabee speaks with clarity, cofidence, and focus. He showed leadership and moral principal. Despite all the “hot” issues of these candidates, these qualities Huckabee demonstrates will determine a good leader and a President of our country who will take our nation through the had times ahead.
