Does Hillary Clinton Fear John McCain? - Updated
Just check this story out from politicalticker and you’ll see where I’m going with this:
(CNN) — If Hillary Clinton and John McCain become their party’s presidential nominees, the general election race is likely to be a love-fest.
At least according to Bill Clinton.
Campaigning in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Friday, the former president brushed aside suggestions his wife would prove to be a divisive nominee for the Democratic Party, pointing out how she has successfully worked with Republicans in the Senate — including one of the current GOP presidential candidates.
“She and John McCain are very close,” Clinton said. “They always laugh that if they wound up being the nominees of their party, it would be the most civilized election in American history, and they’re afraid they’d put the voters to sleep because they like and respect each other.”
The comments may not be welcome by the McCain camp — which yesterday faced fire from several of its rivals for winning the backing of the New York Times — a longtime archenemy of conservatives.
I would argue that it’s in Hillary’s best interest to point out how bipartisan McCain has been in the senate. I say this because in all the polls, McCain is the only Republican candidate that right now appears to have the ability to easily beat any Democratic nominee.
Therefore, it is in the Clinton’s best interest to be chummy about McCain with the hopes that conservative Republicans will decide he’s too liberal and choose someone like Romney or Giuliani. Neither of them currently have the polls numbers to beat Hillary Clinton in a head-to-head.
If one Republican nominee scares Hillary Clinton more than any of them, it’s John McCain. There is some calculation behind Bill’s comments, at least it appears that way to me. Especially since they’re coming before the Florida Republican primary and Super Tuesday.
I think Hillary would much rather face Romney or Giuliani since they don’t have the appeal to independent voters the way McCain does.
Update
See, I’m not crazy:
The Clinton’s fear a McCain nomination.

Does Hillary fear John? Why not ask does John fear Hillary?
He should. After watching some of the Florida democratic debate it is clear that John McCain is another version of Bush with a few distinctions. The politics he espouses of “trickle down economics, keep the current tax cuts (for the rich),: stay the course in Iraq” etc will not resonate well with the American people who have clearly rejected these policies in the last national election and are looking for a new direction.
It’s about changing the course stupid!
If it’s down to Hillary and McCain, I’m voting 3rd party.
Those “polls” didn’t even test Dr. Paul’s name. Hillary will win the election against any of the republicans. John McCain is a rhino. If they would test Dr. Paul’s name, they would see that he is the only one that could beat a democrat. I can’t believe they tested a 2nd tier candidate like Giuliani but not Ron Paul who has over double the votes and delegates as Giuliani does.
That ridiculuos Clinton propaganda complete with lovey-dovey pictures of McCain and Hillary was meant to show that Billary is capable of running a civilized campaign . Poor McCain must be furious to have been already set up by the Clintons as they try to portray to the base that McCain is a soft touch. Yes, the Clinton camp must see McCain as a real threat. And he would be. Billarys corruption and impeachment make them questionable citizens.
Strangely, I think this article has it competely backwards. It is, in fact, Romney and Guliani that Hillary should be scared of, since they are competent debators who will destroy Hillary in a one-on-one debate.
McCain may be a threat to the Democrats, but it looks like some think Romney is as well. See the following clip…

McCain being good friends with the Clintons does surprise me. Bushes are also good friends with the Clintons They are all after the same things easy money from us. You would be friends with them too if you were on that side of the country too. There are two kinds of people in this country. There are those of us that work hard for our money. And then there are those that just feed off the first group. Note: more than 90% of the federal budget is paid for by not much more than 50% of the people. Who is running this country? Not us. Someday we will have to deal with this, its just a matter of when.
Democrats want McCain to be elected for the republican candidate. Look at the news. Do you think this is just a coincidence? Why would they want McCain if McCain is the greatest threat? It doesn’t make sense. What makes more sense is that this is a strategic move by the democrats to sway opinion towards McCain, i.e., the weaker candidate. McCain embodies everything that people are tired with, especially the war. He is also a product of Washington (like Hillary), whereas, someone like Romney has the advanatage of being on the outside
