What’s more, according to this story from The Des Moines Register, he’ll be endorsing Romney:

U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo announced today he’s ending his long-shot bid for the White House.

The Colorado Republican made his exit from the race official at a press conference this afternoon in downtown Des Moines. He’ll throw his support behind GOP candidate Mitt Romney, he said.

Tancredo’s name was most associated with his fight against illegal immigration, one of the presidential election’s most controversial issues. But his hard-line approach to curbing the unlawful migration of millions across the United States’ southern border wasn’t enough to vault him from the back of the GOP field.

He registered 6 percent support among likely Republican caucusgoers in the most recent Des Moines Register Iowa Poll.

Apparently he met with Romney for a hour this morning prior to the endorsement to “clarify issues”.

Will this help Romney? It might in the minds of voters who worry about his stance on illegal immigration. Tancredo has been a strong proponent of border security and fixing the problem by simply enforcing existing laws.

I actually think this more than much else may lend some Romney some credibility on the more socially conservative front. I say this mainly because Tancredo played heavily to that crowd as well on the issues. I don’t think it’s going to bump Romney much of anything in the polls but this is not an endorsement than will hurt him at all in the Iowa caucus, it can only help.
