All the king’s horses and all the king’s men won’t be putting Edwards’ campaign back together again:

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — A second blogger working for Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards quit Tuesday under pressure from conservative critics who said her previous online messages were anti-Catholic.

Melissa McEwan wrote on her personal blog, Shakespeare’s Sister, that she left the campaign because she was becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the level of attention focused on her and her family.

“This was a decision I made, with the campaign’s reluctant support, because my remaining the focus of sustained ideological attacks was inevitably making me a liability to the campaign,” McEwan said Tuesday night.

Sure, they are the victims. They left under “pressure from conservative critics” because John Edwards didn’t have any problem with them being Christian bashing bloggers.

McEwan and Marcotte have stressed that the content and opinions on their personal blogs are in no way a reflection of the Edwards campaign.

In one posting, McEwan described Christian supporters of President Bush as his “wingnut Christofascist base.” Marcotte once posed a mock question-and-answer session in which she speculated what would have happened if the Virgin Mary had taken an emergency contraceptive.

“You’d have to justify your misogyny with another ancient mythology,” came the answer.

That sort of religion bashing is fine since it’s towards Christians.

Here’s how things happened. John Edwards hires these hate-filled bloggers. Some people noticed and protested their hiring. Edwards says he’ll be looking into it and will let them go. Then he retracts so that the left wing blogosphere doesn’t nail him for caving. Eventually it is worked out behind the scenes that these two women will “resign amongst criticism” so Edwards doesn’t look like he caved. They can now claim the victim and Edwards didn’t cave.

Bottom line, John Edwards was fine with what they said in the past. All he actually cared about was kowtowing to the ultra left wing fascists who would blast him for giving in to conservative critics. Had these women said similar remarks about Islam this would be a different story. Had these women previously bashed gays forget it, they never would have been hired.

What we have now is an Edwards campaign in full damage control mode and the true colors of John Edwards being prominently displayed.
